Illinois GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger is demanding the Republican Party move on from former President Donald Trump.
So, in other words, he wants the party to move back to the D.C. establishment and abandon everything that made the party successful under Trump.

The Illinois congressman said Republicans need to break with Trump after the mayhem on Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol.
“It just has blown up — and in a great way,” Kinzinger said Monday in an interview. “I think what I was on to without maybe fully realizing it, is there’s a lot of people that have left the Republican Party or are pondering leaving the party, but they’re obviously not Democrats, and they’re sitting around going: ‘I have nowhere to go.’ I’ve heard that from so many people.”
“So, I put that out there and said, ‘Let’s do a movement; let’s take this party back,’” he continued. “What that’s going to evolve into, daily, is going to be a decision we make. But I foresee, certainly, supporting good candidates that tell the truth.”
Kinzinger was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump one week before he left office, claiming he was guilty of inciting the Capitol siege.
“The benefit of people like me, and more people like me, just telling the truth, is not letting people forget the lessons of the sixth,” Kinzinger said of the riot.
“Everything went so far off the rails that not only was there an attack, literally, on democracy, there are people that defended that attack on democracy — and that can never happen again,” he added.
Republicans are overwhelmingly sticking with Trump, by the way, not Kinzinger.
As noted by CNN, Trump’s in a strong position if he chooses to run again in 2024:
After the US Capitol insurrection on January 6, Trump’s still cruising in a potential 2024 primary. A majority of Republicans (57%) said in an Ipsos KnowledgePanel poll that he should be the 2024 nominee.
Against named opponents, Trump easily leads the field. Among those who either voted for Trump in 2020 or are Republicans, Trump’s averaging about half the primary vote. No one else is even close.
Trump pulling in half the vote may seem low given that Trump won over 90% of the vote in the 2020 primaries.
Historically, Trump is polling extremely well if he does want to run again.
But let’s expand our historical dataset. Let’s go back to the 1980 primary season and look at all primaries that didn’t involve a sitting president.
The average leader in the earliest polling was pulling in about one-third of the vote. Trump is well above that.
The only two candidates who were pulling in more than 50% (i.e. above Trump) at this point were Hillary Clinton for 2016 and Al Gore for 2000. Their leads ended up being large enough that few intraparty challengers emerged, and both had clear primary wins.

It’s clear that if Trump runs again in 2024, he’s the clear favorite to win the Republican nomination.
