Groups of Leftist anarchists continue to loot, burn, and destroy under the phony guise of ‘avenging’ the death of George Floyd, who died at the hands police a week ago, and their antics have now extended to beloved memorials in the nation’s capital.
As reported by CNN, rioters defaced the World War II and Lincoln Memorials in Washington, D.C., overnight, city crews discovered on Monday.
“In the wake of last night's demonstrations, there are numerous instances of vandalism to sites around the National Mall,” the National Park Service, which is responsible for maintaining the monuments, said in a tweet containing photos of the damage. “For generations the Mall has been our nation's premier civic gathering space for non-violent demonstrations, and we ask individuals to carry on that tradition.”
The news network added:
The vandalism appeared after skirmishes between groups of protesters and law enforcement flared across the city Saturday night.
Some protesters gathered in downtown Washington, DC, at Lafayette Square, which is across from the White House, into the evening, but additional protesters were not allowed in by police. At times there were attempts by some protesters to enter the park. They were met with pepper spray or other mechanisms pushing them back.
Rioters spray-painted, “Ya’ll not tired yet?” at the site of the Lincoln Memorial, while vandals sprayed, “Do black vets count?” at the war monument.
American Greatness further reported that rioting began on the National Mall near the U.S. Capitol Building, but eventually, participants made their way to Lafayette Square, which is located across from the White House.
Domestic terrorists also started a fire at the historic St. John’s Episcopal Church, which was eventually extinguished by fire crews. Church leaders confirmed that noting of significance was destroyed though many initially thought that the structure would burn to the ground.
Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General William Barr issued a statement Sunday noting that rioters and looters, as well as anyone affiliated with the far-Left Antifa organization, will be targeted for law enforcement.
“It is time to stop watching the violence and to confront and stop it. The continued violence and destruction of property endangers the lives and livelihoods of others, and interferes with the rights of peaceful protestors, as well as all other citizens,” he said.
“It is the responsibility of state and local leaders to ensure that adequate law enforcement resources, including the National Guard where necessary, are deployed on the streets to reestablish law and order. We saw this finally happen in Minneapolis last night, and it worked,” Barr added.
“Federal law enforcement actions will be directed at apprehending and charging the violent radical agitators who have hijacked peaceful protest and are engaged in violations of federal law,” the AG noted. “The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly.”
Monday marked one week since Floyd died after being pinned to the pavement for several minutes by fired police officer Derek Chauvin, who has since been charged with third-degree murder.
