The Marxist left’s war on our culture is continuing, as evidenced by the ‘decision’ to remove an iconic Civil War general from the U.S. Capitol Building and replace him with a ‘civil rights’ figure from the 1950s.

The New York Post reports:

A statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee was removed overnight from its perch in the US Capitol where it has stood next to George Washington for 111 years and will be replaced by one honoring a civil rights icon from Virginia.

The Lee statue has been a part of the National Statuary Hall representing the state of Virginia since 1909.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said it will be replaced with a new statue of Barbara Johns, who at 16 years old led a 1951 walkout at an all-black school for equal education that went on to become part of the US Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Brown v. Board of Education.

“We should all be proud of this important step forward for our Commonwealth and our country,” Northam said in a statement released Monday.

“The Confederacy is a symbol of Virginia’s racist and divisive history, and it is past time we tell our story with images of perseverance, diversity, and inclusion. I look forward to seeing a trailblazing young woman of color represent Virginia in the U.S. Capitol, where visitors will learn about Barbara Johns’ contributions to America and be empowered to create positive change in their communities just like she did,” he added.

“As of this morning, Virginia will no longer honor the Confederacy in the halls of the United States Capitol,” added Virginia state Delegate Jeion Ward, who sponsored legislation creating a commission that voted on the change Dec. 16 (like the outcome was ever in doubt).

“When I think of Barbara Johns, I am reminded of how brave she was at such a young age. It’s time for us to start singing the songs of some of the Virginians who have done great things that have gone unnoticed. This is a proud moment for our Commonwealth, and I am humbled to have been a part of it.”

A couple of things.

First off, it was Northam who dressed up in blackface or a KKK outfit during his college days, as reports revealed last year. So the last thing this massive hypocrite can credibly discuss is racism – because he is one. And if he’d been a Republican governor and we discovered what he did in medical school, that would have been the end of his political career. The only thing that saved him is that his Democrat Party is just as hypocritical as he is when it comes to these things; after the party won complete control over Virginia’s legislature, they needed ol’ “Coonman” Northam to sign their legislation.

Secondly, Virginia was the hub of the Confederacy, which, by the way, was run by the Democrat Party – the party of slavery and the party of the KKK.

Finally, Confederate or not, Lee was a brilliant general who was praised as late as 1960 by the general and future president who won World War II, Dwight D. Eisenhower; why remove him since he is part of our country’s shared history? Why not simply add a statue of Barbara Jones?

Of course, the answer is simple. The Marxist left’s goal isn’t to enhance our history and the understanding of it. Rather, the goal is to erase and then rewrite it.
