If former President Donald Trump does not run for president again in 2024, political mastermind Roger Stone Says Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz should run for president.
During an interview on Russia Today, Stone told host Steve Malzberg that Gaetz is the “perfect” candidate to run for president in 2024 if Trump decides not to seek higher office.
“As far as whether the president is going to run again, he seems to be teasing that he may, if he does he can count on me,” Stone said.
“I will be there. But if he does not, four years is a very long time, even in American politics,” he added.
“If he elects not to run, well, then, those of us who support his agenda, the America First agenda, we need to have a back-up candidate,” he continued. “We need to have someone who can win a general election on the same platform that Donald Trump won on.”
Stone believes that the right man for the job, in that case, would be Gaetz, if Trump does not run again.
It may be nearly four years until the 2024 presidential election, but political handicappers are already sizing up the field for the Republican Party.
If Trump runs again, there’s no doubt the party is behind him and he would win the nomination.
According to a Washington Times/CPAC poll, Trump is the overwhelming favorite to win the 2024 GOP nomination.
The poll found that over 95% of respondents approved of the job that Trump did as president.
More than two-thirds of respondents said that they wanted Trump to run again, while 15% said they did not, and 17% were unsure.
A staggering 95% of respondents want the GOP to continue pursuing the policies of Trump.
If Trump were to run for president again, 55% of respondents said they would vote for him, followed by 21% for Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, and 4% for South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem.
If Trump is not on the ticket in 2024, a whopping 43% of respondents said that they would vote for DeSantis, followed by 11% for Noem.

DeSantis was a hit at the Conservative Political Action Convention on Friday, as he addressed a raucous, appreciative crowd in his home state.
Seen as a rising star and a legitimate presidential contender (in the mold of Donald Trump) at some point in the future, DeSantis struck a number of familiar chords in his speech in Orlando as he touted his accomplishments, especially when it came to dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
