Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced this week that he agrees with presumed President-elect Joe Biden that transgender students should have access to sports, bathrooms, and locker rooms in accordance with their gender identity.
During a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Schumer was asked if he agrees with Biden’s proposal, which would involve transgender students at federally funded schools.
Schumer made it clear he agrees with Biden.
“Joe Biden said that on his first day of office he will give transgender access to sports, bathrooms, and locker rooms in accordance with their gender identity in federally funded schools. Do you think he has the ability to do this and do you agree with this decision?” the reporter asked Schumer.
“I agree with the decision and I know he’ll check things out thoroughly legally,” Schumer responded.
Not that it will surprise anyone, but Schumer is on board with transgenders in high school being able to use whatever bathroom and locker room they choose.
Back in October, Biden said there should be “zero discrimination” if an eight or ten-year-old child “decides” to be transgender.
As noted by The Daily Caller, Biden vowed at the time to sign the Equality Act, which would force public schools to allow biological males who identify as transgender girls into female athletics.
Biden pledged to sign the bill while condemning what he called an “epidemic” of violence “against transgender and gender non-conforming people,” in a statement his campaign released Friday.
The bill would alter the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” protected characteristics under federal anti-discrimination law. Among other things, that would force public schools to expand female athletic teams to include biological males who identify as transgender girls.
“My administration will enact the Equality Act to end legal discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, expand economic opportunities for LGBTQ+ people, reform our treatment of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals in our criminal justice system, ensure access to accurate identification documents, and improve government data collection to better track violence against the transgender community,” Biden pledged in Friday’s statement.
The bill would require public schools to allow biological males who identify as transgender girls to compete in girls’ sports.
If Republicans maintain control of the U.S. Senate following the two run-off elections in Georgia, it’s all-but-certain this will never pass.
But if Democrats do win back the Senate — and they would control the House and White House — you can be sure this will pass as well as many other radical bills.
