On Tuesday, popular actor Terry Crews offered a different perspective on the Black Lives Matter movement as he encouraged the left-wing activists to not make their message turn into a “Black Lives Better” movement.
The comment was immediately met with backlash from the Left.
The tweet, which was very logical to the middle-ground American, was met with harsh backlash from far-left liberals on Twitter.
“There are Asian Americans who hate their own community and worship white people too. Guess white supremacy cuts across all races, creeds, and ideologies,” tweeted liberal asian activist Eugene Gu.
“This is unintellectual and irresponsible. You are developing into an enemy of the people. Ignorance will be your downfall,” tweeted Amanda Seales.
“Terry. What in the actual hell? This is the very definition of a strawman argument. Why would you suggest a movement created to advocate for the prosecution of cops/citizens responsible for racially motivated killings could somehow morph into ‘we’re better,’” tweeted Franchesca Ramsey.
“How fast does Terry Crews think black equality is gonna come? How in his mind do we spend 400 years under the boots of white supremacy and then all of a sudden leapfrog white people into being their oppressor after a few weeks of protests?” tweeted Travon Free.
“We can’t even get to black lives equal yet. This is the goal. We never said only black lives matter, we never said black lives matter more. We say black lives matter because in today’s society black lives do not matter to a lot of people and are in danger,” tweeted Mari Copeny.
This isn’t the first time that Crews has stirred up the far-left on Twitter. In early June, Crews spoke out about the fallout from the George Floyd protests, warning against “black supremacy” while advocating that “equality is the truth.”
“Defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy,” he said on Twitter. “Equality is the truth.”
“Like it or not,” he continued, “we are all in this together.”
Check out what the Daily Wire reported:
Crews’ comments come at the height of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, an activist group that calls for the disruption of the nuclear family and the defunding of police nationally. The group is years old but recently picked up steam following the death of George Floyd, who died last month after a police officer had his knee on the 46-year-old’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds during an arrest, as shown in viral video footage. The officer at the center of the arrest has since been charged with second-degree murder.
The comments quickly went viral, garnering over 140,000 likes, 22,000 retweets, and 21,000 comments by Tuesday morning.
Crews’ comments were immediately met with backlash from the far-left including one of his fellow actors from “Everybody Hates Chris” Tyler James Williams.
“Terry, brother, I know your heart and you know I have love for you and always will,” Williams wrote. “No one is calling [for] black supremacy [and] the narrative that we are hurts our cause [and] our people. We’re just vigorously vetting our ‘allies’ because time [and] time again they have failed us in the past.”
“I understand, Tyler. I was not saying Black supremacy exists, because it doesn’t. I am saying if both Black and Whites don’t continue to work together– bad attitudes and resentments can create a dangerous self-righteousness,” Crews replied in a tweet. “That’s all.”
Far-left activist Kevin Powell said that Crews needed to “read books.”
“This makes absolutely no sense, makes every Black self-hating assumption that Black folks would actually try to do harm to White people in major ways, when there is no proof in history of any such behavior even remotely close to White supremacist behavior,” said Powell. “Please read books, sir.”
“That’s not what I’m saying Kevin. At all,” Crews replied.
“Black supremacy? We represent 13% of US population, hold no institutional power [and] gaslight our coworkers,” said actor Orlando Jones. “We got 99 problems and your math isn’t the only 1. #StrongerTogether.”
