Throughout last summer, left-wing activists and their elected allies in the Democratic Party embraced a legitimately Marxist concept: Abolishing, through “defunding,” local police departments, ostensibly on the grounds all cops are “systemically racist.”
While the useful idiots who hopped aboard the bandwagon aren’t the brightest bulbs in the room, the ringleaders of the ‘defund’ movement knew exactly what they were doing: Using the tragedy of the death of George Floyd to push a concept that, taken to its logical conclusion, would lead to widespread chaos, death, and the destruction of American cities and the country in general — which is the objective of the modern American left.

Many cities adopted some level of ‘defunding’ their departments, and as predicted, crime rates skyrocketed. And while some elected Democrats in some of those cities are now walking back their defund efforts, many others are not and instead have doubled down on defunding the thin blue lines in their communities.
That includes many jurisdictions in formerly red Virginia, where three county sheriffs have just made a bold political statement in opposition of the insanity.

A sheriff in Virginia has switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican due to rhetoric expressed by certain some Democratic politicians.
Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler, who was elected as a Democrat in 2015, said in a statement that he’s making the choice because, according to him, police officers have faced attacks from Democrat politicians in Virginia and nationwide.
“I am changing to the Republican Party because of the relentless attack on law enforcement by Democrats in Richmond and Washington,” Shuler said in a statement last week. “My deputies work hard to serve and protect the citizens of Smyth County. As sheriff, it has been difficult to watch my deputies try to move forward during this unprecedented assault on our profession. We [law enforcement] remain an honorable profession and should not be judged by the bad acts of a few. I have always been a conservative throughout my law enforcement career of 38 years.”
Shuler becomes the third Virginia sheriff recently to make the switch, the outlet noted further, citing to the chairman of Smyth County Republican Party, Adam Tolbert.
“He noted that Tazewell County Sheriff Brian Hieatt and Buchanan County Sheriff John McClanahan switched to the GOP several months ago,” The Epoch Times added.
“I congratulate Sheriff Shuler on taking this bold move to leave the Democratic Party and join the Republican Party. … We are thrilled to have him as a member of the Republican Party in Smyth County,” Tolbert said, noting he eagerly accepted.
McClanahan switched parties last year, noting at the time he can’t “be associated with the National Democratic Party” because of legislation that has been introduced at the state and national levels that “negatively affect” communities and his “livelihood.”

“Democratic leaders across the country have been ones that are pushing for bills that negatively affect Law Enforcement as well as other values I stand for,” he said in his statement. “I have many friends within our local Democratic Party and hold no negative feelings toward them.”
To all American voters who have supported Democrats for decades and continue to do so out of blind loyalty: Today’s party isn’t what it used to be. It may as well change its name to the American Marxist Party because that is the ideology nearly all of its elected members embrace.
