Former President Donald Trump did what he always does during a speech at a GOP donor event at his Mar-a-Lago home Saturday evening — he spoke frank truth, and of course, in doing so said things that are no doubt going to make some Republicans twinge.
But some of what he said will also make Republicans smile, especially those who continue to see him as the titular head of the party — such as when he predicted GOP victories in the midterms and again in 2024.

“We are gathered tonight to talk about the future of the Republican Party – and what we must do to set our candidates on a course to victory,” Trump told private guests at a Republican National Committee donors event.
“I stand before you this evening filled with confidence that in 2022, we are going to take back the House and we are going to reclaim the Senate – and then in 2024, a Republican candidate is going to win the White House,” the former president predicted.
“Saturday’s speech will be welcomed words to the Republican donors visiting Mar-a-Lago to hear directly from President Trump,” Trump adviser Jason Miller said ahead of the event, according to the AP. “Palm Beach is the new political power center, and President Trump is the Republican Party’s best messenger.”
“Obviously I’m biased to who I hope that will be, if President Trump does decide to run again,” Miller, a Newsmax TV contributor, told “The Count.” “But I also think you’re going to see (him) go after Joe Biden again and very strong terms with regard to the border, the woke corporate cancel culture.”
He added that the fact everyone was willing to travel to Mar-a-Lago to hear Trump proves the location is the “center of the Republican universe right now” and Trump is the “biggest name in politics.”
“He’s stronger than ever,” said Miller, adding in 2024, Trump would be “far away the favorite” for the GOP nod.
The former president had a lot to say about his political enemies as well, especially those in the party — namely Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
“If that were [Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer instead of this dumb son of a bi**h Mitch McConnell they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it,” Trump said of the RINOs who refused to go along with challenges to very problematic electoral results in several battleground states.
He also singled out McConnell’s wife, former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao.
“I hired his wife. Did he ever say thank you?” Trump said.
Chao resigned ‘in protest’ following the Jan. 6 riot.
“She suffered so greatly,” he said, mocking the resignation while going on to refer to McConnell as a “stone-cold loser.”
Trump also did not cut Dr. Anthony Fauci any slack, either.

“Trump attacked many of his favorite targets, such as Anthony S. Fauci, the country’s leading epidemiologist, even mocking Fauci for his first pitch last season at Nationals Park — a frequent Trump taunt,” the Washington Post, which ‘obtained‘ the former president’s comments, reported. “He falsely claimed that Fauci only received credit because he opposed Trump, an attendee said, and joked that Fauci wanted people to wear five masks after not initially supporting masks.”
Trump is obviously the center of the GOP universe and will continue to be moving forward. A 2024 bid is his for the taking.
