Leo Terrell has been a civil rights activist for more than three decades – as well as a consistent Democrat voter.
And while Democrats are the party of the KKK, Jim Crow laws, segregation, and institutional racism, party elders figured out a couple of decades back they could erase their racist past by embracing minorities.
Some call that ‘evolving’ on the subject of race. Others – cynical veteran politicos like myself, for instance – would call it political opportunism.

Either way, it’s worked out pretty good for the Democrats. Today, much of the Old South is dominated by the Republican Party after being in Democrat hands for a hundred years, so it’s been pretty easy for the Donkey Party, with huge assists from the ‘mainstream media’ and Left-wing academics, to tar and feather the GOP with a ‘racist’ past.
Yes, the party of Lincoln, emancipation, and the fight to free slaves.

In any event, Terrell has seen this evolution too, and he’s had enough of it. His Democrat Party – or, at least, the one he thought used to exist as the party of ‘civil rights’ – has left him, having been hijacked by men and women who have far more in common with Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin.
And now, he’s bailing. Terrell has pledged to back President Trump the ‘racist’ ‘bigot’ in November, a massive change of heart that could be viewed as a major shift in attitudes among older black Americans who may also feel like their party has left them, as well.
“I have 30 years invested as a Civil Rights attorney, public school teacher as you mentioned, and I’m frustrated and disappointed in the Democratic Party and the left. I mean, it really started a couple of weeks ago when Joe Biden made that comment, that awful comment, that insulting comment that if you vote Republican, you ain’t black,” Terrell told Fox News host and famed constitutionalist and author Mark Levin on Sunday.
He called the Black Lives Matter movement one that has been hijacked by the likes of “profiteers” and extremists like Al Sharpton.
“I’m a Civil Rights attorney. That statement was condescending and insulted every African-American, and every American, and then you follow up with a series of protesting, which is perfectly okay, but the failure of a Democratic Party to call out the rioting, the looting, the murder is just something that I, as a Civil Rights attorney could no longer sit and just basically stay quiet,” he added.
His comments came after he tweeted his support for the president on Saturday.
“If the presidential election was held today I would vote for #DonaldTrump. America Is more important than party loyalty,” Terrell tweeted, which was well-received among Americans who share similar concerns (and ire) at a Democrat Party that celebrates socialists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and harbors blatant anti-Semites like Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

“I am asking law and order Democrats to leave the party. #Blacklivesmatter and #Socialists have hijacked the party. It is no longer the party of #JFK,” he also tweeted.
Terrell isn’t the only black voice turned off by his party’s Left-lurch and support for ‘revolutionary’ lawlessness. And it certainly won’t be the last.
